Derek Mayne is a forty something from Northamptonshire, England. He lives with his wife and teenage daughter.
Since graduating from university in Brighton he has worked within IT, in a variety of industries including publishing, retail and most recently the financial services industry.
Over the years Derek has worked in most aspects of the IT industry from software design and development, project and programme management through to infrastructure solution design and delivery, application support and service delivery. He has hands on experience of IT outsourcing and has managed truly global support and delivery teams. Most recently Derek has enjoyed roles in IT Operational Risk bringing a practical and technology based viewpoint to the risk agenda.
Outside of work Derek enjoys reading, listening to a wide range of music, has been learning to play the guitar (and so far has mastered maybe two bars of “Smoke on the water” and the opening bars or “Run to the Hills”) having recently parted with his Motorcycling “mid life crisis” a tornado red 2007 Triumph Thruxton he is now enjoying tinkering with a ten year old Landrover. With his family Derek enjoys attending concerts and folk music festivals. He is also a keen photographer.
For over twenty five years Derek has been playing, running and writing roleplay games and materials for those games. Whilst having a wide ranging appreciation of these games his firm favourite over the years has been the “Call of Cthulhu” roleplaying game published by Chaosium Inc. Derek was one of a number of friends who have organised a “roleplaying reunion” for members of Brighton Universities roleplaying society to celebrate its inception in 1987, the original “BURPS REUNIcON” in 2007 was a great success and several have been held since. Whilst this is never likely to become an annual event on the roleplaying calendar it will undoubtedly continue to happen from time to time..
