Something for Halloween?

Halloween HorrorLooking for something special for Halloween? Thinking of a Cthulhu game but out of ideas and inspiration?  Well if you are willing to part with a few dollars you could do a lot worse than consider taking a look at the best submissions for previous Chaosium  Halloween Adventure contests, available as PDF downloads or softcover bound MISKATONIC UNIVERSITY LIBRARY ASSOCIATION monographs.

Not everyone is familiar with the MU Library Association monographs, which are longer works by one or more authors on a subject of import to Call of Cthulhu roleplayers. On these products the author has also fulfilled the functions of editor and layout artist and  Chaosium themselves have done little in the way of editorial. Through the publication of monographs Chaosium try and offer a wide and easily accessible range of content.

There are five volumes of Chaosium  Halloween Adventure monographs all of which I can recommend most highly: Halloween Horror, Halloween Horror 2, Halloween Horror Returns!, Bride of Halloween Horror, Plan 09 From Halloween

My favourite of these has to be Bride of Halloween Horror [CHA0364] which contains nine Halloween-themed adventures both winners and honorable mentions of the 2008 Halloween Adventure Contest.  Most notable of which, in my opinion, it has the most excellent THE BELOVED DEAD – by Sarah Newton, who has gone on to produce some truly excellent RPG material including “Chronicles Of Future Earth” – see here.

THE BELOVED DEAD takes you to a Festival in the the tiny fishing village of Mormouth, the quiet good cheer of previous years replaced by fear of strangers and the dark. Since the start of the Festival three villagers have died in horrible circumstances, their bodies found in the early morning drenched in water and lakeweed, their lungs filled with water, a look of stark terror on their faces.

Other adventures include:
CAIN’S CLAN – by Ed McGlinn.
A CHILL DOWN YOUR SPINE – by Harris Burkhalter.
THE DRAGON AND THE WOLF – by John W. Thompson.
EARTH: REST STOP, BODY SHOP – by John D. Kennedy.
JUBAI KAIDAN – by Simon Yee.
WHO’S THAT KNOCKING? – by Garnett Elliot.

Have a spooky Halloween,
